Wind and Kites, Surfing and Power at Kourion
Daddy took me to Kourion beach today. It was super windy. I like the beach because I like to build sandcastles and splash in the sea and drive my trucks on sand roads. But I like rocky beaches too because there are rocks. I like rocks because I can build things.
Our trip to the beach today was a surprise. If I’d known we were going, I would have asked Daddy to bring my swimming pants, my diggers and my shovel. I enjoy digging holes.
Okay, I didn’t get to play in the water because it was chilly cold, and I couldn’t play with my diggers or build sandcastles, but it was still lots of fun. I got to play with big rocks. But the best part of all was watching the people in the water.
They got to play in the water because they were wearing funny suits that stop them getting cold, but most of them weren’t in the water they were floating around on top of it. The wind was super strong, and the men were on their windsurf boards.
I know what a windsurf is, Zuma has one on Paw Patrol, and Rocky had to fix the sail with old clothes because it got a hole in it. Daring Danny X does kite surfing, but I didn’t know that’s what they called it until Daddy told me. It works just the same way as windsurfing; the wind makes it go!

The man stands on the board and there is a stick called a mast and that has a sail on it — just like a sailing boat. The sail and the mast have a handle that the man holds and when he wants to go forwards, he turns the sail so that the sail catches the wind and it makes him go fast. If he wants to slow down, then he turns the sail again so it doesn’t catch the wind so much any more.
I know that kite surfing means you catch the wind in a kite, and you hold onto the strings and it makes you go fast, but I don’t understand how the man gets the kite up. You need to run really fast down the beach to get a kite up in the air, but you can’t run fast on top of the water. The surfboard is too short.
I think it might be very difficult to do windsurfing and kite surfing because they all fell in the sea.
